Indeed. But I bet they would not accept past sell by dated foods. Fussy so and so's data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I eat food out of date if it smells ok but I don't trust my wife to make that decision
She walked into the dining room with some pork she'd defrosted
She opened the wrapper and said does that smell off to you
The smell was unbelievable, like it had been ejected from the open wrapper by an explosion
I grabbed it and took it out of the house but not before it had contaminated all downstairs
A few christmas's ago a friends mum bought a frozen turkey, a huge one as all the family were coming round
She defrosted it overnight and got up at 7am to start it cooking
Tore the plastic off and it was rank
They had chicken nuggets for Christmas dinner from the corner shop

The OH family own a wholesale business so we do get a lot of short date and well of of date stuff and we've not been ill yet...
6 months out for chocolate has been fine so far.
We water test eggs as well and have eaten eggs that are well over a month out of date.

Think supermarkets instead of throwing way out of date food could sell it at a 50% reduction to people on benefits, food banks or the homeless.

Why to just those on benefits? Many already need to do that to make ends meet.

Supermarkets cannot legally sell out of date food.
Food Banks can only legally give out in date food.
Bit of a non-starter there... data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Never take any notice of the dates on food. They are just a guide. Never been ill. Bread in the fridge can last a couple of weeks past its use by date. I have eaten crisps 2 months past the sell by date.
Its all about using your eyes and nose to check.

No. Not even close. Thankfully.
Hope this helps.
