Ha my mum's crimbo dinner was always a knife edge because my aunt and uncle always arrived early to the do. On to schooners of Sherry whilst trying to cook was hilarious for me as I had the most important job stirring the gravy. On more than one occasion we had my mum running back into the kitchen because she had forgotten to put the actual food on it.
Danm it always tasted good though. Our Unigate Milkman always delivererd some prime Christmas meat.
Fond memories.

My mum was a crap cook. There were however, 3 exceptions to this.
Yorkshire puddings, Rice Pudding and Melting Moments.
She was taught to make Yorkshires by my paternal grandmother (a North Yorkshire lass).
Sadly, she passed away in 2005 and I never learnt the method for Yorkies or Rice Pudding. I never knew my Grandmother either as she passed when I was a baby.
I use the Bero book that I was bought by mother in law one Christmas for Melting Moments. Sadly, she's gone now aswell.

My Dad was the cook in our house, his specialities were Yorkies and Melting Moments. Taught by his Mum, using recipes from the little Bero book data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
We hired out his local pub for the wake after his funeral, amongst all of the photos, diaries, all of the little reminders we could find for the family and friends to look through... were 3 huge plates of melting moments baked by my GF the night before from the Bero recipe, just like my Gran used to bake for my Dad and his brother, that they baked for their kids, who bake for their kids today.
There were a few tears and a lot of smiles, 75 years of family history rolled in oats with a Cherry on top. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Am I correct in remembering that Bero was a small blue chequered diary sized cookery book (again making an assumption it was flour based)?
If so I remember it and am sure my dear Mum still has hers and I guess it must be 40 years old
