A gentle reminder for anyone interested. It's time to get the sloe gin started.
The last couple of years I have been using berries that I had been given, but this year for the first time I picked them myself. It would appear to be a very good year for sloes.

The first bush I found was very sparse and after picking it clean it yielded about a half pound of sloes.
In a different part of the field I found three bushes together with berries hanging like grapes. I picked 3lbs in about twenty minutes and barely make an impression on them.
Top tip- add some almond liqueur to the mix a month before Xmas to give it a really warm, nutty after taste. Cheap stuff from lidl will do, don't splash out on amoretto. Also nice with hazelnut liqueur .
damn, we're away to the lakes tomorrow...maybe next weekend..!
