Wasn't this your view?
So. HMS Queen Elizabeth. Something to be proud of, or a waste of public money?

The construction did involve all the UK.

Well if the Americans sort out the problems with the F-35's we might even have some planes to put on to the carriers.
14 F-35B's will cost the Royal Navy about £2 billion, that's with all the add on costs of maintenance etc

Yes.What does it have to do with the post 11?
Unless of course you are being "green" and save energy every Sunday by turning off your sarcasm detector.Post 11 was sarcasm, just in case you have. I still see nothing "to be proud of" in the construction of two relatively large (for the UK) ships that weren't (on a global scale) particularly challenging on a technical level.Ships which rocketed in price and still have to be accepted into service before we can say a job well done.(HMS Ocean, when handed over initially to the RN for sea trials ended up with a snagging list of over 5,000 items and when everything was sorted was considerably over budget for a run of the mill ro-ro ferry with a few bits tacked on).
(Just as an aside, the last three warships built by Swan Hunters were delivered on budget, on time and defect free.(an astounding feat of manufacturing for a £250M state of the art project), but still not enough to savethem from a dogma dominated Tory government).
And as an aside to the aside, don't get Swan Hunter ship manufacturing confused with Swan Hunter the unsuccessful resurrection of what was left which tried and failed to kick start a ship renovation business.

My sarcasm detector must be offline as well. Other than the line about Scotland I took it as you thought it was a good thing.

Well, I apologise then.I thought I was on safe ground when I "praised" Gordon Brown. He is (apparently) the most evil and incompetent person to ever have any degree of power in the UK and I have previously and successfully worked on the assumption that any attempt to praise him and his wisdom is automatically taken as sarcasm or a deliberate attempt to flame things.
He sold the gold, you know!
But there you are.perhaps I blinked and missed the bit where he was forgiven and his reputation as a very average Prime Minister has been restored. So now he is up there with the rest of them.Dave, Maggie, Tony, Ted, John etc etc.

Regardless of whether we need them, the procurement of the carriers has been a mess.Nobody in the Labour government of the time deserves any credit for the huge overspend and the terrible contract.
