Even the French are getting upset, accusing Britain of being an inviting destination with its over-generous nature and benefits.

It is causing the French (particularly Calais) great inconvience and expense because ultimately that's where they arrive before the final hop to Britain.

I often don't agree with French ideas but I sympathise with them on this one.Why should they be out of pocket and inconvienced because of Britain's failure to deal with the problem.

If I were the Calais mayor I'd either just send them all onto Britain and let them deal with the problem, or I would send Britain a regular the invoice to cover the inconvience and cost of doing Britain's job.

Very good article, all true, something just needs to be done.
This is not islamaphobia, but closer to islamaphilia in the media, government and public institutions, they can do no wrong, litterally.

I was starting to agree with you, but then hyperbole.

The easy way was to ignore any problems and leave it for others.
We are 'others'.

I left because for a variety of reasons, economic (less taxes, as I saw mine being pished down the drain on quangos, sh*tty committees on all sorts of things), better weather and a better way of life. I am lucky that I can live anywhere that is close to or has a international air hub.

Totally agree, but also illegal immigrants should claim asylum in the first country they reach, but that doesn't happen.

The UK needs to get tough on illegal immigrants, zero benefits, punish anyone who employs them, lets out rooms to them etc. It should be mandatory to have to show a current passport when first claiming benefits and be asked randomly when they sign on.

BBC News - Calais mayor warns of blockade over illegal migration

The mayor of the northern French city of Calais has threatened to block the port unless Britain does more to control the number of illegal migrants.

Natacha Bouchart said that her city was being "taken hostage" by about 1,300 migrants from the Middle East, Asia and Africa who are attempting to cross the English channel from France.

She said that the migrants were costing too much and making life unpleasant.

Many believe the UK will be a more welcoming place if they can get there.

Illegal immigrants don't get benefits.

Please, for once, could this forum understand the distinction between illegal immigrants, immigrants, and asylum seekers?

Cliff Publish time 26-11-2019 03:09:03

More to the point, how many of those waiting in Calais understand the distinction. Are they interested in the fine print?

pragmatic Publish time 26-11-2019 03:09:03

How are they housed?
Housing benefit and council tax benefit for a start, otherwise they'd be homeless (managed differently but it isn't for free).
They aren't allowed to work, so unless they are starving they are either getting a stipend or out on the rob to feed themselves.I don't believe that Asylum seekers are particularly robby in character, I haven't seen data either way, but would imagine the daily mail would have a field day with any such findings.

They might not be on the same benefits system as the majority but they are receiving benefits as they aren't self funding. We need to be stronger on making distinctions between genuine and bogus asylum claims, and when a country returns to a safe state they should be taken to the airport and sent home.
No human rights now having routes nonsense, it is asylum not migration, they can then apply for immigration visa from their home country.
A guest is not for life, we extend our generosity for those in need, but beyond that we are being taken advantage of.This is hard hearted too, school girls that are about to do their GCSEs and miss all the friends they've made, tough.
