What i'd really be interested in is how much it would cost to give the entire public sector an inflation linked pay rise (say 3%), and how much basic rate income tax or VAT would have to rise in order to fund this figure (so no extra borrowing allowed)

Pfffft. So long as you came here legally and don't intend on blowing anything up your all good. I don't support or follow the national front, BNP, Britain First etc.

A 1p rise equates to £6bn in extra tax.

The 3.9% the unions are demanding for the NHS (which is about 1/3 of public sector employment) is £2.5bn.

So assuming all else remains equal across the rest of the public sector, basic rate tax would have to rise by about 1.25p just to fund that this year for the whole public sector.

But as you know, we still have a deficit of around £50bn.

I'm a statistician, not an accountant....

And that's on the other thread anyway!

Well done Angela Merkel - mother of the AfD

Merkel 'wins fourth term' in Germany

The refugee problem has certainly upset the apple cart in Germany.
For the first time, a far right party will have seats.
Although Angela Merkel won, this was not quite as well as expected. Schultz (socialist) came a poor second and he recognised this in his speech.

But, the AfD a far right party, which has gained support mainly because of Merkel's immigration policy has 88 seats. That really is the shock in this election.

One that Nigel Farage is happy to endorse, don't forget. Says a lot about his true politics.

Jezza99 Publish time 26-11-2019 02:36:34

Yeah, his "true politics" must be why he is such an enthusiastic supporter of Anne Marie Waters. Not.data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

If you want to slag him, at least try and inject a bit of accuracy forchange.
