I'm a snob.
Always travelled (extensively) by main airlines and in Club/Business class.

Didnt McDonnell show solidarity with their hunger strikers as well? - after all he did call for Bobby Sands to be honored..

If speed isn't an issue for you, you can get to Paris by Coach one way for about £22.90 direct in under 8 hours (depending on traffic). Air travel isn't cheap, somebody somewhere will have to pay for it along the line.

In terms of miles for your pound, it is incredibly cheap.
Most of the fare is in tax and airport charges- and the Gordon Brown tax (not that I'm one bear a grudge!data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7). I have just booked a ticket with BA for a 7 hr ride! Actual fare was £264 and the taxes, airport fees and security charges £389 !
If you took our the terrorists charges, G. Brown tax and LHR fees the actual fare is a cheaper than that bus fare. In fact dirt cheap!

Well if airlines forgo maintenance, safety checks, upgrades and fixes to aircraft then that airfare would be a lot cheaper. If you don't mind sacrificing safety for cheapness of course data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 Airport fees I can understand, it's not cheap retaining firefighters on standby 24/7 for accidents and crashes, nor is it likely cheap keeping the tarmac in tip top condition for landings and take offs. Plus all the security you need at airports these days cost an arm and a leg. You can probably quibble about Government imposed taxes on air travel. As for coach travel across Europe ? It's what more people seem to be doing when it's easier to do so compared to the hassle of air travel.
You'll probably find air travel will get really cheap once short haul commercial electric aeroplanes become a reality, some airlines predict those will be around within 10 years. Fuel is expensive, electricity generated from renewables (and nuclear) is a lot cheaper.
