Higher road tax for diesel cars to pay for "clean air fund"

Not sure what that means...?

Maybe they'll build big filters alongside the roads. Then i can drive around feeling smug that my tax is paying for clean air unlike those dirty petrol drivers..... data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Promise to build the right amount of houses needed immediately within the next 7 yrs. What's the point in that.

Well, stamp duty abolished for FTBs up to 300K . and no blanket removal of the public sector pay cap, both of which are welcome. Other than that, seems pretty dull, but with little room for maneuver hardly unexpected.More sticking plaster money for the failed NHS. Productivity and growth are apparently not being turbocharged by our mass immigration.

Still, QT before was amusing, with Comrade Jeremy getting comprehensively battered. He is now making his response to the budget , with conspicuous silence from the Labour back benches.

Pretty boring overall.   To be expected I guess.

Nothing new/radical on housing (save for scrapping Stamp Duty - maybe should have switched it so the seller pays).

@Philly112yup.Tax allowance going up more slowly than previously planned.   Shame really as they have made good headway on this since Labour were kicked out.

A Government with zero ideas. Dull, dull, dull.

I'd rather be bored than bankrupt.

Growth figures revised downwards, productivity is lower. If Austerity continues, we'll be heading for an eventual IMF bailout because growth will remain sluggish and the bond markets may turn on the UK for not reaching growth targets as originally set out by George Osborne. Governments don't go bankrupt, they become insolvent. Might seem like nit picking but that's what I was told by somebody who oversees contracts in the hundreds of Millions to Billions of dollars range.

Also the cut in stamp duty according to the OBR won't help first time buyers, it will merely push prices up further -
The Government has no fresh ideas, and is merely continuing the same sort of thing as Cameron and Osborne, but hoping for a different result. This Government is near enough finished. Brexit will likely finish it off. The budget might turn into another omnishambles.

Exactly this. Continue the same policies and expect a different outcome. The definition of insanity.

As someone who has been predicting the collapse of the Tory party for the last 20 years, you'll forgive us our scepticism. Wishful thinking does not translate into fact.

Tis a shame that nobody in government dares to be different.

Cannot remember that last time I saw a budget measure and thought, wow! (whether I approved or not).

Now it's just meh, all the time.
