Not only is the public interested, but it is in the public interest.
It certainly feels like the balance of power for far too much in the hands of the state, especially child services.They appear to be mainly self serving and rarely able to perform their job correctly (there are more than enough examples of the latter!) .
More inline with the Stasi or the Spanish inquisition, 'power absolute, so shut your mouth'.
We heard all this at the beginning of the month though, the Daily Mail is just rehashing the whole story once more. (Apologies if there is anything new in it, I just skim read it)
The good news is that the boy has had the treatment.Let's hope it genuinely was the best treatment for him and not simply chosen by media demand.
IMO if there is a medical question turn to the professionals - surgeons, doctors and nurses.

I don't think the majority of the interest around this is due to a medical question, but threats to take children into custody if you didn't go along with a doctors decision.
What ever is best for the child. With a medical question I would take the doctor's decision.
If the doctor tells you there is a better procedure that reduces he risk of turning your child into a vegetable but you can't have it due to cost reasons, what do you do with that advice?
Did that happen?
Did the Daily Mail phone up the parents and tell them about proton beam therapy?
