The decimation to the public sector teaching profession caused by cost-cutting and changes to terms and conditions does not seem to concern the current government. Their agenda lies primarily with privatisation and all their actions are leading to that end.
Apparently in America public high schools and colleges have had sever budget cuts over the last few years and the cuts are likely to continue into the future.

It depends on the parents data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
I'd like parents to send their children to school on time, clothed and fed, but unfortunately in 2016 Britain that's far too much to ask in many cases.

There are many issues, far to many to list here. What I will say though is that many think their precious little darlings could never doing anything wrong.

You've contradicted yourself and inadvertently agreed with what the other posters have said, the teacher who was feared the most kept a semblance of discipline, it is a fine balance between fairness and laying down a set of boundaries which then have to be enforced...

In the early 80's I became aware that the little scrote living next door was chucking bricks in our pond.I knocked on their door and informed his parents what "Perry" was up to. "Thank you for letting us know" his father said, while he bellowed "Perry" at the top of his voice and unbuckled his substantial leather belt. Perry never bothered us again and certainly learned whatever lesson it was his father taught him.I don't condone violence, but clearly, a disapproving look isn't going to cut the mustard with a child that only understands corporal punishment.

The banning of all corporal punishment in Scandinavian countries seems to have worked; the likes of Finland have some of the highest attainting students in the world.Narrowing down just on their system of education must be worth a look.
I firmly believe the need for both parents to work in the UK and the transient work force has done nothing for family and community cohesion. We generally live in fractured society that really does not know each other.

For some children corporate punishment will work however as IG has said it can't be condoned as for many it won't and just lead to repetition of violence .
