It's high even for London, but to be fair it's not really justified making a comparison with New York as their rates are the lowest seen for years.

Reality Check: Has London's murder rate overtaken New York's?
For a better explanation

rancidpunk Publish time 26-11-2019 01:36:39

I linked to that earlier. As I said back in previous posts, this is more a New York success story than a failure in London.

But we do need to get a grip to ensure the recent rises don't become a long term trend.

Most of this is black on black crime. Probably with some Eastern European thrown in as they can also be a bit stabby.

Crime in London - Wikipedia

In June 2010 The Sunday Telegraph, through a Freedom of Information Act request, obtained statistics on accusations of crime broken down by race from the Metropolitan Police Service. The figures showed that the majority of males who were accused of violent crimes in 2009–10 were black. Of the recorded 18,091 such accusations against males, 54 percent accused of street crimes were black; for robbery, 59 percent; and for gun crimes, 67 percent. Between April 2005 and January 2006, figures from the Metropolitan Police Service showed that black people accounted for 46 percent of car-crime arrests generated by automatic number plate recognition cameras.

Street crimes include muggings, assault with intent to rob, and snatching property. Black males accounted for 29 percent of the male victims of gun crime and 24 percent of the male victims of knife crime. Similar statistics were recorded for females. On knife crime, 45 percent of suspected female perpetrators were black; for gun crime, 58 percent; and for robberies, 52 percent.

And:

Race and crime in the United Kingdom - Wikipedia

Except you can't say that. From a blog in The Spectator.

"The overwhelming majority of street crime, knife crime, gun crime, robbery and crimes of sexual violence in London is carried out by young men from the African-Caribbean community. Of course, in return, we have rap music, goat curry and a far more vibrant and diverse understanding of cultures which were once alien to us. For which, many thanks."

Which then upset the press:

Rod Liddle censured by the PCC

The police, would, in the past have done some racial profiling and had stop and search, and if they saw a gang of youths on a street corner in hoodies would have searched them.

They won't now as they are afraid of being called "racist."

We saw that with thousands of kids being abused and the police, social workers, community leaders and whoever else afraid to do anything.

What has happened is the police go after someone posting a dog owner and his dog doing "Hitler salutes" or over a Golly in a window,

Prestatyn man denies race-hate in doll court case - Race-hate charge over doll in window

All for "hate crime." Which, in itself, sounds like something from "1984."

After the stabbing will be the mother of either the stabber or the stabbee on the news saying their son was a talented rap artist or aspiring footballer who just fell in with the wrong lot.

There will be no dad.

Seems like it was better under Boris:

And?

It's clear to see the upward trend started well before the end of Boris' tenure. Trying to pin blame for rising crime across London on individuals is just stupid political point scoring.

rancidpunk Publish time 26-11-2019 01:36:40

Surely not. Haven't they just become streamlined with efficiency increases across the board? Anything else can be attributed to immigrants, poor people and Labour.

Cliff Publish time 26-11-2019 01:36:40

While that is true the worrying trend is a change in the nature of crime. Stabbing someone for what is either a trivial, gang related revenge, or even because you standing in the wrong place at the wrong time is a new and growing trend. The perpetrators do not appear to value life like normal civilised people.

rustybin Publish time 26-11-2019 01:36:40

Yes, I agree what I wrote is too simplistic. This is a cultural thing that has changed over time.

Although it could still be linked to cut in funds. An example from education is that many schools can no longer afford (or rather the NHS can no longer afford) to send in Nurses / Dentists etc into Primary Schools to give talks on Sex Education / looking after yourself and your teeth etc, so now these things are being left to teachers who simply can't do it as well. The effects on this won't been seen immediately, it could take years before we seen a detrimental impact on Teen Pregnancy, sexual / dental health and could end up costing the tax payer untold millions in the future. These are just two specific of many examples. It's crazy.

We used to have the community police come in every year for an assembly for the children - we've not seen them in years.

rancidpunk Publish time 26-11-2019 01:36:41

Community policing has been massively reduced, they no longer visit the schools like they used to or have the same relationships with prominent community members like they did in years gone by.

You can look wider as well, with community youth facilities being closed left right and centre. They're not a requirement, so end up being an obvious victim for councils when having to reduce costs.

Budget cuts are not the sole reason, but they simply can't be dismissed out of hand in defence of their political bias, just shuts down discussion.

rustybin Publish time 26-11-2019 01:36:41

The only time my school children see the police it is in a negative way. It was such a valuable use of time to have the police come in all smiles and talk about all the good they do.
