The F35 isn't an aircraft. It is a series of variants for different countries and with different stages and support for different weapons, data systems etc.
It was initially cleared for service in 2015 by the US in the US. Now it's in another country flying with different aircraft, different weather, different spares available.

What service that is is a little wooly. It might be the gun worked but not the missiles. Or it was considered good enough for flying 400 miles but not 800 miles. Whatever, it was considered capable of doing something useful without killing its pilot.
