Have you decided between electric or acoustic?

Yes, definitely acoustic

The Fastlok neck on that Eko looks intriguing but I'd have a good look around to see how long it's been around, from a robustness point of view.

My daughter started playing in June and has had a guitar with no pick guard since then, plays with fingers and plectrum and there's not a mark on it....you shouldn't be going anywhere near the body when playing....if my 12yr old daughter can do it....

It took us 3-4 weeks of looking before buying my daughters first guitar, taking our time and getting a general feel of what was available, so don't rush buy or you will regret it, I know it might be harder but try and find an Independant Shop as big superstores can be overwhelming and the last time we went in one the sales person told us the guitar we were trying was Laminated and had this and that but was wrong on all counts, just something to keep in mind.

For your budget you can do a lot better than either the EKO or Chord guitar you mentioned, a lot better.

Keep us updated or just ask if you need any more info.

just jumping in as I posted a similar thread.....I've been looking at the xbox rocksmith as everyone was on about it....i'm assuming if you're going to use an acoustic for this the guitar will have to be a semi acoustic ...in order to plug it in?

was looking at acoustic myself but my daughter keeps going about wanting a semi acoustic so though I might be better off looking at one of those?

a guy told me the only difference between the 2 is a semi acoustic will go louder once it's plugged into an amp?

cheers

If you're intending to use it with Rocksmith, you will need a semi acoustic, it'll work with any guitar with a 1/4" jack.

There's a ibanez semi acoustic starter kit over on Amazon for £99, the guys on here seem to think tha ibanez are a decent manufacturer so it might be worth you having a look

He's not describing a semi-acoustic, he's describing an electro acoustic, which is just an acoustic with an electric pickup integrated into either the neck or body.

right so now I'm confused

I did mention to him that i was interested in a semi acoustic ...the guy owned a guitar shop so I guessed he must know what he's talking about ?

thought a semi acoustic also had a electric pick up and a built in tuner ?

...I'm in serious danger of getting onto 'woofers and tweeters granddad' ground here!!
