I've got a new Kindle on order but when trying my mums I kept trying to swipe to turn the page.
I agree it doesn't need to be touch sensitive and it would be an unnecessary drain on the very good battery life.No other gadget lasts a month on one battery charge.

Its funny how we`ve all become so accustomed to touch screens. My 3 year old boy thinks every screen is touch!

While still on sale at places like tesco's seems the Kindle Keyboard Wifi has disappeared from Amazon in the UK, the only one available seems to be a refurbished one.

We are getting the Kindle Fire now - anyone already got a US import? I am interested in the GUI, and would be extremely tempted to pick one up should I find that the cover of the books have colour coverflow or a bookcase, while reverting to e-ink for the actual pages.

I am not interested in music video or apps in the slightest as I have an iPad, but really want my lovely Kindle to be a bit more friendly GUI wise.

If you want e-ink stick to the kindle readers, the fire is an android tablet. Its for music and films etc, bought form amazon. I would get one (not to replace my kindle reader) but I have a playbook, which I believe is very similar and made in same factory.

I have a (rooted) Nook Color which I use the Kindle app on. It is nigh on impossible to read outside comfortably in most situations so I have a Kindle arriving tomorrow to give me that option.
I can read the Nook fine indoors (if a bright window isn't behind me) but if I had a tablet I was happy with I'm not sure I'd get another unless it was replacing the former.

KIndle is an ebook reader, kindle fire could be compared to the ipad. There's a cheap kindle fire 7", less cheap kindle fire hd 7" (similar to nexus 7) and 8.9" kindle fire hd for the US I think.
the Kindle fire uses android not iOS as on the ipad.

If you want an iPad rival you are better off with a Nexus 7 or Samsung Galaxy Tab.
