I absolutely loved this series of books. As a big Stephen King nut i loved the way it tied into a lot of his other books also. The thing i find with SK is you have to slog through the 1st hundred pages of his books and then you are hooked. It was what made me give up on Christine and The Shining when i was younger, as i didnt have the patience. But if you are going to read this series of books then you have to take into account some of his other work.
It would be good to get a reading order for them though.
King also put a short story about Roland in one of his Short Story conpendiums, but i cant remember which one.
Didnt From A Buick 8 also refer to the Dark Tower universe?
I didnt get the Dark Tower Reference in Insomnia, but i read that when it first came out and before reading The Gunslinger.

Insomnia was the most blatant tie-in book, it explicitly mentioned the Dark Tower serveral times and talks about the Crimson King and Patrick Danville as well as referencing Roland but not directly.

Yeah but the film only covered the first story in the book (which wasn't even Hearts in Atlantis), ommitting any Dark Tower references.Which was a shame, but may have alienated a lot of non Stephen King fans.

Nice Dark Tower reference in the film of 'The Mist' - the main character is a film poster artist and if you look at what he is painting, it's the poster for a 'Dark Tower' Movie ....

I believe there is also a poster for The Thing in there too, i love that film. I just wish they had got Darabont to run The Dark Tower movie adaptions.

After owning Book IV for about 12 years and avoiding reading it), I finally bought all the others and am up to Book V now...loving this series, its scope is incredible. As a fan of King, I'm annoyed at myself for taking this long to read them, but I'm also pleased that I'm able to read them all one after the other and don't have to wait a few years between each book. The Song of Ice and Fire series is driving me bonkers as I think Martin may well buy the farm before he finishes all seven books.
