Please give this another chance - it and the others in the trilogy are excellent. What made you give up?

Two books that come to mind are Swan Song and Boy's Life both by Robert R McCammon. For those who enjoyed Stephen King's The Stand, you should read Swan Song, it's just as good IMO.

Wow that is quite a recommendation, the stand is in my top 5 books of all time, so will definitely check it out data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Swan Song was the first book of McCammons that I read.It was recommended to me a few years back in a 'Books similar to The Stand' thread.Stephen King is my favourite author so I didn't think anything would come close to The Stand, but Swan Song is right up there.Ive since read all of McCammon's books and loved every one.I'm sure you'll enjoy Swan Song, McCammon is a very underrated author imo.

Thanks for reminding me - yet another addition to my list is Banks's wonderful "The Crow Road".The book was brilliant; the TV adaptation was sublime.

Admit I didn't quite understand most of the start of Lightbringer first time around. Required a sizeable amount of effort. But I knew that Weeks wouldn't let me down data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Check out his Night Angel Trilogy too. Just as good.
