I've considered the Mirage too.

You can tell Steve Whynn created it - he only sold it to fund The Whynn.

Not stayed there but always go in it & they have a number of very nice rooms and one of the best pools in Vegas I believe.

Some nice bars and restaurants too.

Definitely worthy of consideration IMO data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

The impression I get of the Mirage, is that its a calm place and quite adult in appeal. The position is excellent obviously. The only concern and why I asked, is that perhaps by now The Mirage is faded - that's a question in my mind not a statement or assumption. It may be very nicely kept and if so would be a great choice.

I found a nice video of the entrance area of The Artisan. Posted this year.

I also saw lots of videos on Youtube showing peoples parties and weekend pool djs. That's the opposite of what I want. I don't want noise. I think The Artisan could be a nice place to stay if its quiet. It probably is, outside of those pool events, parties and so forth. I did also read there's live piano at dinner, which might be acceptable if its quiet. But I think overall, just staying there and having breakfast, its not going to be an issue. I did like the look of some of the rooms. There's lots of pics on Google images. And this common area is snazzy ......

The Golden Nugget. A 2018 video in HD

First some retro photos, then the tour around, then a glimpse of Freemont Street outside.

Seems also a good channel for other Las Vegas insight.

When I was last there me and my wife took the driven guided mob tour around Vegas. Around 8 of us in a mini van driven by an ex mobster taking us all over the city to where all the mobsters used to hang out and live and where their crimes were commited. Inc in the tour was where the jewellery store was that the hole in the wall gang stole loads of gems (the same gang portrayed in the Scorsese film Casino run by the Joe Pesci character) Showed us where Robert Deniro's character was blown up in his car in the patking lot of a restaurant and Deniro's house in a cul de sac that was used in the film as well. 2   hours of entertainment that I'll never forget . If I could remember the name of the tour I'd post a link but I'm sure if you google Vegas mob tours you'll find it.

Found it

I love themed tours, if they are done well.

There are Breaking Bad tours in Albuquerque, did you know. There's one conducted in a near identical Fleetwood Bounder motorhome, going round the various places. Must do when I return !

Ages ago I did a seedy underbelly/scandal/deaths tour of Hollywood in a Cadillac hearse, instead of the usual window van stars tours kind of thing. That was fun.

We usually do a strip hotel on week nights when they are cheap and a downtown hotel for the weekend.

Downtown Grand is nice but nothing fancy. Pool doesn't come at all close to the Golden Nugget pool but it's not a bad place to stay if you want to be downtown but want a change from the Nugget. The place is either pretty new or at least newly renovated I think. We booked the basic room, a little small by Vegas standards but clean and new looking. I would stay there again. I've been told by a few US friends to avoid all hotels Downtown aside from the Grand and the Nugget but have chosen to ignore them and staying at the D next week. There's a big music festival on and it's a holiday weekend over there so prices were higher than usual and the D had a good deal when I was looking to book. I shall post back with an update when I get back but I'm not expecting much!

The Nugget pool area looks pretty incredible.
They have clearly invested a LOT of $$$$ in that data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
Looking pretty toasty in LV at the moment and hitting highs of 36 degrees next week data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Stayed at MGM and Monte Carlo. Both great hotels but we didn't spend a lot of time in them. Too much to do and see.
