I despise going to Magic Kingdom and staying until the end for the fireworks and then having to stand in a queue for the monorail or boat back to the transportation centre. At that time you can be waiting for ages and it's still hot and you are tired. At least the monorail is fantastically air conditioned.

How much is hiring a car with the insurance, petrol, parking etc compared to getting a occasional taxi.

John.

More to get the car, but not by much. It depends on the distances you're looking at really and the car. Petrol is basically free. Fully insured cars can be well under £200 a week.

So still well over £500 for the fortnight if you add the price for the parking in the parks.
I must admit I also enjoy a couple of drinks when I go out for a meal so that counts a car out for me data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I find booze so expensive out there getting a car actually saves me money.

44p a litre in Orlando at the moment. It really does depend on when you go but car hire can be cheap but does give flexibility if you want to go to a gun range in the middle of nowhere

...for a basic small model. And don't forget to add $100 or so (a touch over £80 at today's rate) per week for 5 days attraction parking - assuming two days "off" for shopping etc.

Definately get a car, even if its only so you have a vehicle to get to some of the amazing restaurants that are around, some a little further out than others but worth a drive.

As mentioned, parking at disney is $20 per day, although you can sometimes get it free.....if you sing!!!

Seriously, car full of idiots (us) headed in one day and broke into song at the booth singing songs from the jungle book, free parking, happy days!

Be aware thats only a disney, friends of ours tried it at universal, attendant laughed his head off and reminded them universal is not part of the disney change, $20 please!

all of this is great stuff fellas, lots to think about.

rustybin Publish time 25-11-2019 00:36:30

Agreed... But it's swings and roundabouts. We do a lot of self catering to keep costs down so need constant trips to Walmart.

Also, a little late for this summer, but we've been planning ours since we returned in August 2015....We've been buying restaurant vouchers for each other for mother's / father's day... Birthdays etc etc, so we've got almost, $500 worth of 'free' meals out this summer.

Google the Landry card too... Another way to cut costs if you're fortunate enough to have your birthday whilst you're out there....
