Right. Got the front brakes and discs replaced at Halfords for £553. £160 for pads and the rest on discs and labour. Can't say it didn't hurt but I'm driving a machine within the realms of more than the average everything, so to be expected. Rear discs and pads in acouple months.
Not got the oil yet but will look into it afterEaster.
Now we have more than a day of sun and it's warmer, the car got a good clean in and out. Looking crisp if I do so myself. still have to pinch myself now and again.
Here's an anal question. What you guys using to clean the car if doing so yourself? I.e shampoo, alloy cleaner, chammy, etc.?

'Detailing thread'.
Wow. Proper anal stuff on there but good source of info for someone like myself.
Dodo juice red mist, Snow foam, clay bar, etc. Been driving for 30 years and owned one for half of that and didn't have a clue about a lot of products mentioned. A good wash and a chammy always brought up the golf a treat.
The jag i must treat a bit differently me thinks
On the engine oil front, i bought 2 litres of Shell Helix Ultra Professional AF-L 5w-30 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil. It meets the required spec and a palatable price.
Anybody tried it?

Is that the same BMW you posted pics of in the detailing thread a few years back?
That looked mint and the interior cleaning was top dollar. Its amazing the crap that comes off that you can't see.
I've seen a few swirls on my car's paintwork now from cleaning but i use mitts to wash after a hose down which i bought to prevent swirls data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7.

Rear Folding Seats.
Hi all, back and reviving this thread again.
My xf does not have rear folding seats and nor does it have a 60/40 split andI cannot Carry stuff which my previous car (vw golf) wouldn't break sweat for.It not a major problem but it is a bit of a bug bear.
I've seen posts/details of folks who have had theirs converted to folding but most of what I've seen already had the 60/40 split seat but not the mechanism and just bought the conversion pack which I have seen.
I'm in a slightly different boat where it looks like I would need buy the 60/40split seat if I want to convert it. Although having the conversion done would make life a bit easier but I'm not crazy on the idea
Have any of you good folk been in a simlar boat ?

What model year is yours? Mine is second half of 2011 (2012 MY, the facelift headlights give it away).
When you say you would need to buy a split seat are you sure on that? Basically what happened at least for the MY2012 model was that Jag put a 60/40 seat in all its XFs for convenience and covered the back with a single layer of carpet making it look like a single wide seat, unless you wanted to actually pay money for the 'option' of a split seat. But if you cut that carpet off, you find underneath the seat is already split straight from the factory. All you need is the pull cord and latches to make it as useable as if you'd specified the £300-400 cost option when buying the car new. Instead, those would cost you maybe only £100 for official jag parts (4 separate item numbers), though there are some people on the jag forums who have done their own bodge job with a shoelace which is good enough for the few times they use it.
For all things jagxf, the jaginfo.org forums will have a lot more fellow enthusiasts than this place data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Hi
Mine is a one of first facelift, June 2011 but is a MY2012 . I'm currently am on hols and back on Thursday so will check when back but on the face of it, it looks like a solid back seat. Ive seen the 'carpet' mention but thought they were talking about the floor so that had me head scratching but I understand now . Thanks for that.
Not looking to pay more than the conversion kit so if it just the Carpet that's hiding it all then it may be worth going a bit further.
I'm also on the jaginfo forum so can ask on there as well.
Thanks

Back from my hols and Had a look and you are 100% correct. And the most embarrassing thing is that i've had the car for a year and didn't even know or notice the spit asthe center rear seat belt was positioned 'just so' as to make it look like 1 piece. And where there is no split in the seat itself( i.e. like in Golf which i'm used to) i didn't question it.
Didn't twig to move it ..DUH! //static.avforums.com/styles/avf/smilies/facepalm.gif.
When i get time i'll have a proper lookto see whats to be done as it doesn't look like rocket science. Hope i can still get the parts for the same price or below. some fella got them for £79 but thats was in 2012.
