Passat lost power/acceleration
Hi there,I have a 52 plate vw Passat , 1.9tdi automatic.
Great motor, but recently, on acceleration, there's no power.
Revs go up, but the speed doesn't.
I haven't noticed any smoke from the back.
I took engine cover off, and had a wiggle on the inter cooler hoses, and there is a bit of oil coming from the under neath of the hose that goes into, I think, the shuddervalve, and the silver disc being its controller?
There has been some oil spray from the valve, not a lot, as the oil hasn't gone down, but it wasn't there last week!
I'm hoping it's that loose hose, it's the small right angled hose, that comes from the plastic hose,.
I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with this, and if a loose hose would cause engine weakness, and oil to come from the little hole near shudder valve.
I don't want to take it to the garage unless I have to!!
Thanks for reading, and I'm really hoping it's an easy fix.View attachment 1012179View attachment 1012180View attachment 1012181 https://www.avforums.com/attachments/img_0086-jpg.1012182/ https://www.avforums.com/attachments/100_4691-jpg.1012187/
Not sure if you can see the gap on the hose, no others are like this wobbly, and there was a bit of underneath on the hose.
Also, you can see where the oil has come out of valve, (the black thing is shudder valve?)
Cheers. I'm no mechanic but "Revs go up, but the speed doesn't." sounds like the clutch to me? Check the auto g/box oil first thing. Is the turbo making boost? I'd start by removing and cleaning out the shudder valve, its likely gunked up hence the oil leak. As above, if revs rise but speed does not then it is something in the drive chain with the clutch being the obvious first port of call.
It will be nothing to do with the engine/turbo etc. It's an auto box.,
The connecting hose leading to the valve, is loose,.
The revs go up to about 3000, and it changes , as normal, but the amount of time it gets there, is at least doubled, its like the brakes are on as well....
The valve does have a small feeling like a click about ? of the way open, like it has to push through a little notch inside the valve arm.
Also, because of this lickdown doesn't work, which makes me think, no turbopower, hence loose hose, bad airway, no turbo.
That hose, the right angled connecter , the small one, does anyone know the name of it please, if it's a £20 hose, I'll get it and risk £20. Try removing the electrical connector from the MAF sensor (it goes from/to the air filter) then run it up the road...if the power returns then you need a new MAF sensor. If it doesn't make any difference then the MAF is ok.
The EGR valve could be stuck.
An intercooler hose could have blown off or be split, especially the one from the intercooler. Im really hoping its just a hose, as i said, the hose, hich comes from the plastic type hose, round a sharp corner, onto the black plastic valve, is really quite loose, compared to the others.
I did have a loose hose(ooerr), about a year ago, the one going on to the radiator of the in tercooler, and that caused the same sort of issues, but with loads of smoke from exhaust.
Ill try the sensor thing in a bit.
As for now, can anyone tell me what thae hose is called?
Ive been googling, but it comes up with every hose OTHER than that one.
Thanks for the replys BTW.
