Yeah just a 1.6 16v, have been tempted over the years to get a Supercharged version.
Theres a guy building a MK1 MR2 with an Audi 4.2V8 from a S8.

It's still a work in progress as these things tend to be but, it's pretty much there for what I want.

Why is it every Scooby has that thundering roaring sound? I mean EVERY one that has a modded exhaust has that sound no matter what make the exhaust is, no other car seems to? Is it something different on the engine?
Oh and nice car mate, I liked your Fort video, that road is damn tight in some places!!

If you mean the off beat note. I.e. bub, bub, bub.... It's because the runners that make up the exhaust manifold are of unequal length, resulting in the exhaust pulses hitting atmosphere at different times.
The Impreza uses a 'flat four' or boxer engine which means the runners from each exhaust port are very long when compared to a 'normal' 4 cylinder engine. From the factory, it's cheaper to make the manifold fit the that way.
On the later (and more exclusive) Spec C STI's, equal length headers are used, removing that off beat burble. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

aaaoooowwwwww, thanks mate, I totally forget about the boxer engine, didn't think of it at all but that certainly explains it, I wouldn't have known about the different manifold design because of it though. Glad I'm not mad and hearing things data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

It's not my car but it belongs to a mate and now a customer of mine, He'd had the Evo out at a few track days and with the weather being a bit poo of late decided to give it a bit of a clean up.
This is how it arrived

Is it true all or atleast most imports that are stock have the quiet manifold due to Japans laws on exhaust noise (i know import 350Z's are quieter stock). Theres a guy that comes to a local meet with a very fast import but it sounds no louder then your everyday car.

OEM's would design an exhaust manifold to fit a specific space etc, not a specific sound level. It's the exhaust system which has the primary task of controlling the exhaust sound, both tone and level.

Cant believe ive not noticed this thread before, some great cars on here.
This used to be my daily driver, track day fun, going to shows car. Sadly I had to sell last year after nearly 8 years of ownership and AFAIK its now been scrapped. Had made all the necessary mods (suspension, fueling, ECU, braking, roll bar etc) for me to put a supercharger on it, but fate got in the way and I never got chance to take the last step.
