Ever since I saw the original pilot for the show in 2016, I really wanted the show to get greenlit, along with many others. In 2018, it was finally greenlit, to the joy of many. In August of 2019, it finally debuted on television for the very first time. I liked it way more than I thought I would. In fact, I can safely call the show an animated masterpiece.
The characters are all very well-written. Tulip Olsen is our hero, who is stubborn and wants everything to be logical. She has a number on her hand, and every time she grows as a person, the number goes down, and when it reaches 0, she can finally leave the train. One-One is a robot with split personalities, that actually turns out to be the really conductor of the train. Atticus is a corgi who is the ruler of a corgi kingdom, and he is both eccentric and wise at the same time. He becomes much more important when he gets corrupted in episode 8.
The villain of the series, the Conductor, has been one of the best cartoon antagonists of 2019. She's really a human woman named Amelia who lost her husband, so she decided to get on the train, take it over, and create a train car that is pretty much a perfect reality where her husband is still alive. She serves as a foil to Tulip, as both are going through hard times (Tulip's parents are divorced), but Tulip develops as a character as she learns to accept that things can't always go your way and you have to adapt to changes in your life instead of running away from them. She teaches this lesson to Amelia.
There's always a sense of mystery surrounding the series, as each of the train cars are unique, and new ones are always created. The well-painted backgrounds and eerie music add to this vibe. Episodes like "The Cat's Car", "The Chrome Car", "The Past Car" and "The Engine" are some of the best cartoon episodes yet. They're all mature and really advance the plot.
I recommend Infinity Train to everyone. With this, Mao Mao, the Gumball finale, the OK KO finale, and the Steven Universe Movie, Cartoon Network easily won 2019. Infinity Train is probably one of the best cartoons I've ever seen.
