I'm looking for a portable wireless.

I travel round the country with my motor caravan and like to listen to the news on BBC Radio4 but have constant trouble finding that channel on the inadequate Roberts device that I have.  Would any one care to recommend a portable wireless that will pick up BBC Radio 4 on either FM or any other band.

Buy one from a place where you can return it for a refund if it doesn't fit your needs.

Might be better to invest in a decent external aerial rather than another radio. Assuming the Roberts can accept an external aerial.

Now that worries me because I have seen that one needs a special antenna elsewhere on the Internet so now I need to research not only for a portable DAB but also a DAB antenna?

I think that I've made a king size mistake because as I wrote above, "I have been looking for a radio that would enable me to listen to the BBC World Service and I bought one that I saw on eBay, advertised as a Roberts R9962 12-Band World Radio-ideal for BBC World Service.  Because it said, "World service I thought that it would be a DAB but when it arrived all I can see was FM.  Is that where the DAB frequencies are or have I made a mistake?"

DAB coverage isn't very good because of the different frequencies used.
For a caravan I suggest you rely on FM stations. The only other option would be satellite but that is getting complicated.

Some confusion here as your OP said you wanted to listen to  BBC R4 & you now appear to be saying World Service? So we first need to clear up exactly what you want to listen to.

Thar Roberts radio doesn't have DAB so would be unsuitable for the BBC World Service. I suspect that the Roberts use of World Service is the ability to receive short wave broadcasts around the world. But AFAIK, WS isn't on DAB.

If you have a Freeview TV in the van then both R4 & WS are on the radio channels. R4 on 704 & WS on 710.

Yes, confusion indeed.  My fingers move faster than my brain. I do indeed want to listen to BBC R4 during the day but would like to switch to  the BBC World Service in the evening.
I allowed myself to be led astray by the term, "World Service" on the advertisement but that's my fault. Your right that the Roberts use of World Service is the ability to receive short wave broadcasts around the world but the problem is that I can't find the appropriate frequency.  I think that with the speed that the BBC is cutting back on the World Service I had better hurry up in finding it.  Thanks for your comment.

WS in the UK is only available on digital platforms, so you won't get it on the Roberts. Well only on R4 in the small hours.

As I suggested, a Freeview TV or a box with a display of channel number connected to a powered speaker or small stereo would be favourite. Assuming the van has a TV aerial.
