I bought this premium certified cable and it came in a plain brown box coiled up with no packaging or the qr code and hologram, it looks the same but is it fake? 5m Premium Certified HS/E V2.0b Braided HDMI Cable 4Kx2K 60Hz BT.2020 HDR SKY Q 5056098726327 | eBay

I'm not sure 'fake' is a useful characterisation here, but I'd certainly expect a cable advertising that it's gone through the Premium HDMI Certification program to provide the sticker, especially when you're paying two or three times as much because of it.

I'd definitely contact the seller and get them to provide it, or a refund if they can't do so.

For less than £9? You get what you pay for.
Also the HDMI version does not apply to cables, it applies to electronics and interfaces.

Yes if they can't provide the sticker with the correct QR code and hologram that the HDMI.org mobile app can check then it would suggest it is not legit ....

Shame you can't just check the number as a first step on the graphic they show.

The clue is the reference to the HDMI version, as HDMI.org authorised cable manufacturers are not permitted to state an HDMI version as part of the licencing agreement.

£9 is probably too cheap for that sort of cable sold retail. I think it's most likely a Chinese copy, made with cheaper cable and not certified.

The QR code on the advert is the one that is on the HDMI.org website and is just an example of what they should look like. It's not the specific one for any particular cable.

Completely agree but unfortunately the majority of sellers advertising even the certified cables on the various marketplaces lists all the version numbers and their inside leg measurements too

It wouldn't be fake in the sense that it doesn't work, just in the sense that it is falsely advertised.

Is it true that gold plated HDMI is better than standard plated?
