Building an Arcade machine

Hello to everyone,

So I decide with my flat mate to get an Arcade done for our living room. To find all the parts seems to be like an easy task but my main problem is the frame. I want to get away from the classic strudy and bulky wooden frame and I was thinking to get something done with Plexiglas and corner shaped metal like aluminium.

If I get a classic design from a wooden frame and just change the materials you reckon is gonna be ok? Also what about the thickness of the materias? I was thinking something like 3 to 5mm should be ok and probably I will be able to get away just by using my dremel.

Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks

What sort of arcade machine you're building? If it's one of the ones you only interact with gently like a coin pusher or laser gun machine you can get away with building it fairly lightweight.

If you're planning something where the controls are going to be hammered or wrenched about like a whack a mole or a racing game then you want to be cautious - particularly in the latter case where there'll be weight in the top of the machine and you're applying a twisting force.
