Hi all,

I've just moved to Sky and the landline phone charges are are joke! So basically I want to get a dect phone that can route calls through my mobile using Bluetooth.  Its this possible? What's more complicated is can I do it through my wife's mobile or mine depending who is in the house?

Cheers
Mike

Have a look at Siemens Gigaset DX800a I know it will allow at least one mobile phone as a line. It will also take SIP trunks - which are much cheaper than Sky. You get a normal phone number but routes over your broadband rather than a phone line.
I have installed a couple with a lot of success.

Why?
Incoming calls can be taken on normal DECT phones.  ALL outgoing (except freephone numbers) made on your mobiles using your inclusive minutes or mobile rates?
It's what we do on PAYG with 3 as it's so much cheaper for calls (3p/min) and we don't make that many calls.

Even better, you can call using WhatsApp or similar apps via the home wifi for free calls to most numbers (with a bit of a faff)?

Gigaset handsets seem to be hundreds and that will pay for a fair few calls. AIUI Sip/VoIP services will require a subscription fee, too.  So do check the overall costs/payback time.

Why is because that is what the OP asked for. The OP did not ask for a budget solution he asked if there was anything available to do what he asked.

Seriously? People still are into that?

Anyway I wouldn't want to be holding a device for hours on end, just have it on speakerphone or use a headset. At home I just use handoff and make most calls through my computer.

DECT is wireless too (1800-1900 MHz).
Bluetooth is another wireless technology 2400-2500 MHz.
WiFi the same 2400-2500 MHz and 5160MHz  (5GHz).

Mobile phone frequencies may be more or less harmful, depending on the band(s) in use.

Powers needed to communicate within the home to a local receiver will likely be less than through walls to a distant cellphone tower.

Corded sets will be safer if radiation is a serious worry.

But if you are on the phone that much is $ky's £10 a month unlimited UK calls charge that much of an issue (and where your thread started)?
