I second Egypt, although I'd always steer people to something interesting rather than a Red Sea resort.
EITHER
( not both in the time ) a Cairo based week to explore the MANY great things around and in Cairo, using a combination of bus excursions and cheap taxis.
Get a nice hotel at Giza I think ( i.e. by the pyramids ), rather than the tiring city centre, and make Cairo city trips in to see e.g. the Museum, bazzar, mosques, citadel, etc ). There is much to do well outside the city , e.g. to follow the evolution of pyramid building.
OR,
A Luxor based trip to explore the wealth of ancient stuff around there.
But perhaps also with
- part of your week at Aswan, a city south of Luxor, by first class train ( not that far really - 3 hrs )
- plus an excursion by plane from Aswan ( or Luxor if you're not going to Aswan ) to Abu Simbel - trust me its worth it, just Google it.
Luxor is more relaxed and far nicer than Cairo as an environment. Aswan, yet more so and significantly the nicest ( and warmest ). If you're going to Aswan make sure you get out on the Nile which down here is actually awesome and relaxing to be on.
You could even spend a week down in Aswan really, if relaxing is part of your thing.
You can fly open jaw, Luxor and Aswan, if you're using the convenient if naff Egypt Air scheduled flights, so only one rail journey between.
Or you could get a package for Luxor - no idea if you can get packages in the two places. |
