The water around Malta and Gozo is very clean and clear. We enjoyed that before. Last time (december 24, 2014) we were impressed by the breathtaking view at La Valletta. If you like you can get an idea what I mean, watching my video. The music is because of that special day.

@paulyoung666

I've just come back from Malta a few weeks ago. Not somewhere I'd really ever wanted to go but we went on a time share offer with raddison/azure.

We stayed in Mellehia which is the opposite side of the island from St Julian's/Valletta and much quieter. We hired a car for the week so getting around was fairly easy especially as they drive on the same side as us.

I guess it depends what you really want from the holiday...

The beaches aren't anything great...most are quite rocky. The beaches are certainly much nicer in places like the ballerics if that's what you're after.

There isn't really a great deal to see or do. Valletta and St Julian's are nice to stroll around for the day but that really is about it! We went over to Gozo on the ferry spent a few hours driving around but soon realised it was exactly the same as mainland Malta. We had a nice bit of lunch and headed back. Again not really something I'd do again now we've done it.

It's not really somewhere I'd rush to go back to as it doesn't really offer anything in terms of lovely beaches/great shopping/site seeing etc etc it was just somewhere that was OK as a place to visit for us and I guess the huge plus point for us was the lovely hotel at a good price due to the timeshare deal we went on.

Not too bad mate if eating at the hotel it was quite expensive £20 for a basic burger and chips around the pool.

As we had a car we ventured out a little to a few restaurants and it was about what you'd pay at a half decent restaurant here. £50 - £70 for a 2 course meal and drink(s). I guess the weak pound makes it a little more expensive.
We went to Lidl, there's four on the island, and stocked up with some bits for lunch etc and a few treats which helped keep the cost down a little as well!!

Careful nowadays in Malta and southern Italy and Sicily, for the presence of large numbers of migrants from north Africa and middle east. Egged on and worsened by the antics of certain naughty NGOs doing somewhat more than intervening to aid victims of disaster, famine and disease !

I can see the tourist economies becoming badly affected by this as it becomes widely realised. Its a damn shame and I really fancied Siciliy, where the issue is really acute.

Its all avoidable. Where are the European navies ? Where is the political direction ? What about impounding of vessels; prosecution of NGO officials as de facto people traffickers ? Pathetic !

Talking to the in-laws they thought it was ok , however they tend to do that even if it was like Mogadishu , I think we will pass on the opportunity ...
