we have been struggling to decide on where to head for a couple of weeks end of september, favorite was mexico ( looking at the bahia principle sian kaan ) but the which was dismissed recently due to the current zika virus issues but we keep coming back to it and so were looking for any info on A: if its actually a nice place to stay, as all the reviews seem great, and B: does the current potential virus issues live up to the hype?

a quick google seems to suggest hurricane season is typically june, july, august, sept, october so it appears so.  Big spread though so would req a bit more investigation perhaps.

We went to the Riviera Maya a few years ago in September and had2 days when it rained (heavily) for a couple of hours, but no high winds.

Having had this discussion with the Welsh Blood service staff last time I donate, their view is that the Zika is an issue, but - if you're not planning on having kids anytime soon (or your partner is already pregnant) it's not really a major problem. Assuming you'd be taking anti-mozzie precautions anyway (and we didn't have an issue when we were there, Dominican Republic was much worse for mozzie-bites) you should be OK.

No major hurricanes this year I believe. Technically you can get a hurricane anytime but more likely in the summer. I personally wouldn't worry about it too much, especially Mexico as they generally miss the worst parts of hurricanes

I was in playa del carmen last week of july and 1st week of august.
Really enjoyed the holiday.
The holiday rep told us there was no zika in that area at that time.
Hope you have a great time !

I've been to the Bahia Principe and it was superb. Will be going back as soon as I can save up the money!
The Sian Kaan bit is adult only. We stayed in the Coba (Coba, Tulum & Akumal areas can all be used when your there).

Sorry for the bump, how was the holiday?

Looking for a fortnight in early October, but never been to Mexico before and the choices are overwhelming
