I have been toying for a long time with the idea of going to Finland to visit santa [lap land]. My daughter is 7 this year and the other 15 this year. I did not go with the eldest and she now knows the only fat man bringing gifts is me. The little one though is still young enough. I want to go before its too late.

I just wan to know of any tips, best places to book, the cheapest way of doing this with maximum value etc and personal experiences and thoughts on this?

I went to Levi for a wedding just over 10 years ago (December 2007), but combined it with the Lapland experience.

We booked a 4-night package through Cosmos, so pretty much everything was included - snowsuits, coach travel, hotel (full board), various trips and 'experiences'.  The trips included the obligatory husky and reindeer sleigh rides, snowmobile safari, and of course Santa's village.

I wasn't particularly looking forward to going tbh, it seemed like a lot of money to be cold.  But I actually really enjoyed it, although once you've done the trips, you wouldn't do them again. Perhaps the snowmobile as that was fun, but bloody freezing.

The landscape was beautiful, clean white snow and such fresh cold air.  Despite being almost dark most of the time (actually grey for about 5 hours, dark the rest IIRC), it just added to the experience.

We were (very) lucky enough to see the Northern Lights one night (the wedding night as it turned out), although nearly all green, was still amazing.

The trip to see Santa was okay, just, and I'm sure the kids get a lot more out of it than the adults - but it was farcical that the elves all had scouse accents and clearly worked for Cosmos!

The couple that got married went again this January with their kids, and had a really good time apparently.  I'd have to say that I'd probably go back as well - although I wouldn't bother for a day trip, it would need to be 3 or 4 nights to make it worthwhile IMO.
