off to Thailand in January, what’s everyone’s best insect repellent?

Do we bother with garlic tablets now or not!

Very nice

Stay away from the Jungle and it shouldn't be too bad if sensible (Deet/
no running around nake around dusk/dawn etc )

Just come back from a week or so in Thailand didn't bother with bug spray - I did get a few bites...
Did a week in Bangkok with a few day trips out of the city.

Most inoculations are free on NHS just go your doctors and get them - I got hep A B, MMR and Typhoid jabs worth getting.

You have to pay for the rabies one so sacked that off.

Gonna book Peru and Ecuador early next year so will be going back doctors to see what I need.

have always taken jungle formula with me, its 50% deet. spray myself after showers and carry a roll on when out and about. also spray my clothes when washed and let them dry, the little boogers just love me.

I would find out what other insects attack and eat mozzies. Obtain a squadron of them and keep them in a box, ready for use. Get them used to associating you as 'home' by releasing them first in a cupboard and feeding them, then graduate to a room and so forth, until they get used to the arrangement. If bringing insects into the country is a problem I suggest mailing them ahead to collect at your hotel. Worst that can happen is customs intercept them then you have to use Deet after all.

But honestly I don't think the Thai mozzies are aggressive. I think you'll find in practice that they are friendly and always smiling.

If there's something you actually ought to worry about, its the Pants Spider ( there's a reason they call it that ). Dangerous, dangerous spider
