Don't treat it as one city. In reality its many 'cities' connected by freeways over a vast area. For such a short stay, pick one area to give attention to. For example, the beach cities particularly Santa Monica and Venice are popular and fun, plus are close to LAX ( perhaps your stopover airport ?). Another track would be get up to downtown Hollywood and stick around the many attractions there and having quick access to studio tours, stars homes in posh areas kind of tours, or the Universal theme park if thats your thing. Don't expect downtown Hollywood to be nice like Beverly Hills though. You could go to Disney , but, its a heck of a transfer there and do be careful with when you go i.e just not worth it at busy times and that goes for all theme parks. Refer to www.isitpacked.com for this. For such a short stopover , my recommendation would be, assuming its LAX, to stay near for the beach cities ; Marina Del Ray, Venice and Santa Monica, listed in a south to north sequence from LAX. Have lots of fun there. There are also part or full day conducted van tours, leaving from main hotels around there, if you really wanted an overall LA experience. I suppose it depends of you have it in mind to come back or if this would be your only chance likely. But as I say, ideally just hang around the one part of LA as I suggest.Santa Monica/Venice is a common and fun stopover and b.t.w. hire a bicycle for the beach track - good fun and a quick way to get between the good stuff in the area. |
