I can currently play to a handicap of around 18 but only get the chance to play around once a month. I will soon have a chance to play more often and I'm going to invest in a new set of irons as I only have a cheap set of Dunlops. I've narrowed my search to the following sets which are all around the same price .......

Mizuno MP-59
Taylormade R11
Ping G20
Callaway RazrX
Callaway X-24
Mizuno JPX 800
Titleist 775CB

Anyone have any of these sets or have any advice or thoughts ?

Cheers

Robbo

Go and try them.

Pings are custom fitted automatically, you can't just buy a set online. I play with G10's and love them, they are 1/2 an inch longer and 2 degrees upright after I was custom fitted.

MP-59's are lovely but i would suggest "too good" a club for 18 handicapp - they are beautiful when hit right, but not very forgiving when not hit out the centre.

I would serious consider the G20's but go and hit some before buying. Spending £500 or so on a set of clubs you MUST be happy with them before you buy them.

Hi Robbo, as booyaka says, best try before you buy, as a mid handicapper you may want something more forgiving that the Mizuno MP-59's or the  Titleist CB's as these are generally regarded as low handicapper clubs, thats not to say though you may try them and you'll be a single handicapper before you know it!

Personally though, i'd stay clear of ukgolfmall.com the website has no telephone number or return address should you wish to contact them. Just a word of warning, there are a number of websites which sell clubs at big discounts only to be cheap chinese fakes. If something is too good to be true.... This is just my personal view however, the website maybe completely legitimate.

My advice, if your starting out, fix your budget, go to a club, speak to the pro and hit as many clubs as you can, you may find you hit your Dunlops better than any of them! Clubs are such a personal thing that you honestly can't tell how a club looks and feels to you until you have it in your hands

wouldn't touch it with a bargepole!

Check any reputable online golf merchant for G20 pings - and you will find they will say

That website is just a total and utter rip off.

Speak to a local pro shop even American golf place and go hit some clubs. Good luck
