A few snippets of news...
Weidman says he turned down a fight with Belfort because he wants Silva.
Looks like Frankie is going to FW at long last. I really hope he can get to Aldo and give him a fight. I'd love him to become a 2-weight champ and maybe come back for a LW shot again in the future. As much as I am a Ben Henderson fan, Frankie was robbed in their second fight.
Women's MMA is coming to the UFC. Now before you shoot me, this is just my opinion, I know the article doesn't say that. But the key is in the last line of the article. Dana was asked whether a 115lb men's division or a women's division would be the next new weight class and he said "either".
Dana is a business man. He knows that while the smaller guys put on a hell of a show (I don't think the WEC ever put on a stinker of a card) the 125, 135 and 145 divisions haven't set the world alight in terms of viewing figures. But Carano, Rousey and Cyborg have all brought in great figures when they have fought. Stick the legendary UFC hype machine onto these girls and there is guaranteed success to be had with women's MMA. Dana knows it and the latest Showtime figures prove it. Plus sooner or later they will find a way to put on Rousey vs Cyborg and there's not a hope in hell that Dana will let that fight happen anywhere other than in the UFC. |
