Andy Murray v Wimbledon - Will He / Won't he?

Djokovic is one of the best players ever to play the game and Murray is hanging with these guys. Give him a break and some credit.

There is a subtle contextual difference here people should have in mind.

Can he win Wimbledon? Yes.
Will he win Wimbledon? The next two weeks will determine that.

People should be more appreciative and it is a failing in this country's mentality to knock people down. He is indisputably the best player this country has ever had (the Act of Union is not revoked just yet)

I think it could be a very long time before we have a tennis player as good as Andy to support so everyone should really appreciate what he is doing and what he can still do.

In 8 or 10 years when he has retired and we have no men in the top 20 to cheer on I think most people will see just how good he was.

He is competing with probably arguably the 3 greatest  players to ever pick up a racket and is right up there in talent if not completely in terms of trophies.

I hope I'm wrong and kids today are inspired by him and we go on to have a British golden age of tennis but can't see it to be honest

I think his seeding is spot on , djokovic still number 1 and slight favourite

It’s not rubbish at all.  I’ve been around for enough years to have heard the good old BBC hijack a Scottish (or Welsh, or Irish for that matter) win and call it British.  But if that self same athlete loses, they suddenly became a native of their own country again.  Let’s have some consistency.

I think Andy was British when he played in the mixed doubles with Laura at the Olympics.

I think he's a great player who is at home in the top 4 but, unfortunately for him, 2 of those other 3 (and I don't want to dismiss Federer) are supremely gifted athletes who are technically better players at the top of their respective games. There is also a huge burden of expectation on Murray at Wimbledon as well which Federer exploited last year when his head started dropping.

It's nothing to do with the Scottish/British thing with me.

I dislike him just as much as I did tim henman,it's because they are both incredibly boring.

Oh and if he wins it,it's  for Britain.The same if he loses.

I've no interest in whether he's English, British, Scottish or alien. His personality is irrelevant to me too

I admire his tennis which is improving each year. Having just turned 26, he's now in or coming to his prime

I do not know how much experience you have with the British media but I have seen first hand how some of the biggest names in British sporting press work. Any sportsperson who chooses to keep mum has my complete sympathy. That the public have an unrealistic need to know everything is hardly a reflection on the athlete is it. It is the same with celebrities or Kate
