Can anyone suggest a decent bike for 7yr old

I thought there used to be a cycling thread but I can't find it (did it have anything to do with Berties?)

As title really, our eldest birthday is coming up and he wants a new bike, last one we got him was from Dawes which I've never really been happy with, it's been fine for him learning but I always felt it was to heavy and clunky, but then again I don't know anything about bikes.

We're looking at about £250 but will spend more if it's going to last, preferably light weight, gears and suspension (not essential)

Mainly used on the pavement but we've got loads of woods around us so I'm wanting to take him round there once I've picked up my brother in laws 20yr old bike out of his mum's garage.

Our friend who suggested Dawes has suggested Btwin from Decathlon
