Oscar winner: Best Documentary, Features
Jean-Xavier DE Lestrade (THE STAIRCASE) documentary about the trial of a 15-year old black kid, accused of murdering a white woman. The evidence: Identification by the wife's husband who was by her side when it happened and a confession made by the kid after he's been taken by the police to the woods at night and got punched 3 times by a huge black detective (who used to be a quarterback) and been called the N word. Police work at its best.
Yet another great documentary about the corruption of the system and how the police would do anything to convict an innocent person, totally ignoring the facts and lying in court. There's only one policeman there who seems to tell the truth.
The defense lawyers, although from the public defense, are doing an excellent job and showing all the contradictions and holes in the police's version and work.
