Hi, I just bought a 70-300mm zoom lense. What's the correct shutter speed for when zoomed in? I've read 300.

Correct shutter speed is one that gives you the correct exposure without any blur/camera shake. For handheld at 300mm 1/300 should be okay. can go lower if you're using a tripod, higher if your subject's moving.

There is a so called rule of thumb, Minimum Shutter Speed (sec) = 1/Focal Length (mm), you also have to factor in if you have a crop sensor, so 300mm on a 1.6 is 480. This is just a general guide, I have to up the speed due to weight of lense and my lack of ability to hold the camera still!

Dont forget that a 300mm is more like a 450mm if using a crop body so 1/500th is more appropriate unless your body or lens has stabilisation - if it has then you can usually knock that down by a couple of f-stops

I'm finding i'm getting a lot of hand shake. Obviously a tripod would stop that.
