It's unlikely that a bridge camera will give you better images as bridge cameras are not what a lot of people think they are. Bridge cameras have the misconception that they are something between a compact camera and a DSLR whereas in reality all they are essentially are compact cameras wrapped in a body that look similar to a DSLR. The sensor, processor etc are no different to a compact camera and therefore image quality will be no different. All you'll get is more zoom. Also, don't be fooled by megapixels, they don't have the ultimate impact on image quality.
If you want to get better image quality then you ideally want something with a bigger sensor and/or better lens. There are compact cameras (and bridge cameras) that have a larger 1" type sensor such as the Sony RX100 and Canon G7x, although whether they come in within budget I'm not sure. Alternatively a used DSLR would (when used properly) give you better image quality too. DSLRs do have full auto feature so can be used as point and shoot. Obviously this won't often be the best way of shooting and get the best images from the camera, but they should still be better than a traditional compact or bridge camera.
