FWiW Camera Jungle have 15% off until Monday.  Discount is added when you checkout.
I've just picked up what I hope is a bargain lens for a different system.
Worth a look.

I agree with the comment about Kenya and how close you get to the animals compared to Serengeti where it was quite limited.. when we went to Mara, we were pretty close to the animals and didn't need a long zoom... in Serengeti... I mostly used the 150-600 on the D800 where as in Kenya, I had the 18-200 and 150-500 sigma and used them in combination.. I would concur that the 80-400 would be a good choice...

Thanks guys,  very useful information.

Camera Jungle have a Nikon 80-400mm which looks like a good price  with 15% but also been offered a Sigma 100-400mm for around £50 less.

I'm tempted to go for the sigma, because if I get the 80-400, there will be a massive overlap with my current lens..  What are your thoughts?

The Nikon 80-400mm you are quoting is the old D version and I wouldn't touch that one with a barge pole, the newer G version is much more expensive at around £1300.

Just a thought.. in your case, the 18-200 is a decent performer but not a excellent one.. why not get something like the 70-200 Tamron f2.8... not very expensive and you will be using it a lot more when you get back... as stated before, the Kenyan national parks make it easier to get close to the game and in that case, the 200 may be ok.. the problem with the 150-500 is that it doesn't get used that often.. I have the 150-600 Sigma and only times I have ever used it is when I photograph the moon or on my last safari 3 years back... I had the 18-200 and found the picture quality ok but moving on to the Tamron, it is miles different.. something to ponder over..

I'll look in to the Tamron one.  I already have the Nikon 18-200, and for my use it has done me well.

You're right about not using the long reach lens much, it will most likely be use just for this trip.
