New camera but results seem soft

Edit - I've decided to return the camera, I'm not happy with the results and near the end of a return window.

I have a new 27inch monitor (2560 x 1440) resolution & I don't see a lot of difference in the shots. Did you use a tripod, did you have the vibration elimination set?

No tripod, I'm not sure what you mean by vibration elimination but there's no image stabilisation and no mirror on the camera.  I've cropped the images and uploaded, the RX1:

They're both tight crops but the mk 1 is a good bit lower resolution but there's not much detail to me, the large text along the top isn't well defined and the smaller warning signs are difficult to make out.

I'm not familiar with the camera, but is there not a setting to prevent camera shake. The close up view of the train could be a focus or camera shake issue. Was it hand held or tripod? What speed was it taken at?

Settings to avoid camera shake are usually for cameras with reflex mirrors since there is vibration from from the mirror going up and down, this camera is a fixed lens compact so there is no reflex mirror nor is there a focal plane shutter either.  The photo was taken at 1/160 and F11 at a reasonable distance with nothing to distract the AF system so this should be a very easy shot which is why I chose it as an example.

That's not true, I've had 3 bridge cameras & they all had vibration reduction, my digital video cameras have & my action camera. It's to compensate when the holder is trembling, commonly known as camera shake. 1/160 is not particularly fast. Have you tried at say 1/500th? Are you setting it manually or an auto setting.

That's a different feature which as I said above, this camera doesn't have either.  It's a 35mm fixed lens so even 1/160 is two stops over the 1/focal length shutter speed rule of thumb.

I've removed them, I debated just leaving the thread as is with an edit at the top but then didn't want people reading through the thread, checking the pictures and then giving a response only to find out it's a waste of their time because I've already decided to return the camera.

I was going to report the thread for deletion but I don't know if that goes as a black mark against my profile?
