Funnily enough, I've seen arguments saying Capture One's supposed superiority over LR is not because LR make RAWs appear flat and unappealing, but because Capture One boosts colour and contrast on import. It's largely irrelevant to me because the fact is my LR days are numbered (thanks to Adobe) and Capture One is what I'm committed to replacing it with. The starting point matters less to me than where my images end up. I don't think COP will ever be as fast to use as LR despite its amazingly flexible workspace options, but maybe in time I can close the gap to as near as dammit.

Whatever the reason is (LR making photos flat, or CO boosting colour / contrast), a lot of people have switched to Capture One already. Quite a few high profile people often post about Capture One as well, which clearly works. Whether clever marketing, or something else, the tide seems to be going that way now.

I'd be very surprised if CO had even a single digit percentage share of the Adobe sales......

Im just trying out capture one as Ive bought a Sony and you can get the express for free which has about 90% of the features of pro.

1st impressions are it's massively faster than lightroom. Even now im loading in double the resolution images it's still noticeably quicker at loading previews images when scrolling through them.

So after just one session with capture one I'm already back to Lightroom

Capture one has no Panorama stitching or Bracketed exposure merging. both of which I use a lot.

The HDR merging wouldn't be so much of an issue as I don't actually use Lightroom for that but it supports exporting to Nik Collection's HDR Efex pro, while capture one does support the Nik Collection, exporting more than 1 image to HDR Efex pro results in an error.

Luckily the final update to Lightroom Classic added support for my new camera and lens.

Interestingly though, while searching I discovered that Lightroom CC Subscription does not include HDR merge or Panorama stitching, so more money, no owning and less features, Sign me up adobe.

You’re looking at the wrong product for what you want I think. Lightroom CC is the mobile version, if you get the photography subscription which has Photoshop you also get “Lightroom Classic CC” which is the updated version of Lightroom 6 and should have everything you want.

I switched to Capture one, inspired by Derrick Story and Martin Bailey, whose podcasts I follow.

Overall I prefer it and particularly like the fact my unedited raws tend to look closer and better to me than the in-camera Jpegs, which is a great starting point. I somehow find it easier to get a nice looking picture than I did with light room.

If you are an academic you can get a healthy discount on capture one (still not
as cheap as Sony only). Still, it’s expensive to upgrade which is quite a regular cycle. Longer term I’d like to move to Apple photos and try to pack in substantive post processing all together.

Hi all, I've been using skylum luminar which I'm finding very user friendly for a novice. I did want to buy lightroom but didn't want to pay for a monthly subscription. Here is a link Luminar vs Lightroom
