I've just done this - was a bit weird - this is what I ended up doing:

Went into the Spotify app on the watchWent into SettingsSet Playback to "Stream on Wifi".  To do this I had to disable bluetooth on the watch, then select this setting, then type in (GROAN!) my Spotify username and passwordThen I went to one of my playlists and hit download - it started downloading and finishedThen (to test) I put the watch into airplane modeThen played the songThat didn't work - it said 'you are not connected' (well duh)So I rebooted the watch (went straight back into airplane mode) and hit play again - workedGoing to have to see how it holds up over time.

I've tried three types of bluetooth headphones for running. I already ruled out "over the ear" types as to big and bulky, plus others have said they can get hot and sweaty.
So the first tried were in-ear that had magnetic backs to click together when not is use etc. They tended to drop out now and again. So i bought some in-ear that looped over the ears. They didn't drop out but to get good bass, they needed pushing right into the ears. This caused a air lock that meant the bass was great, but also caused a pressure "thud" each time your foot hits the ground when running. They also push wax into the ear and block out external sounds (cars etc).
So finally decided on "on ear" headphones. The design sort of harks back to the 80 style walkman headphones, but the strap now is at the back of your head.
They are fairly lightweight, sound good, stay on and you can still hear sounds around you.
Because they are fairly big, the side controls are very easy to use when running.(volume/track skip)
Pretty cheap as well...!

If you don't mind spending a bit of money, Jabra Elite Sport are excellent quality earphones, good sound, very comfortable and very secure in the ear.

Those Jabras look good but I've been using these for a while https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mpow-Sweatproof-Headphones-Microphone-Hands-Free/dp/B010T291C6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1536569570&sr=8-1&keywords=mpow swift

I only paid about £12 for them. The inner speaker covers came off so I replaced them with a bit of asda carrier bag pressed on with the silicone buds. Prior to these I had a cheap Samsung headset but one of the buds stopped working.

I worry about spending significant money in case they break but if they last and the sound and comfort is up to scratch I could be persuaded.

I've got a pair of those but really dislike them comfort-wise.  They kind of hang in the ear and bounce around - I don't want such a heavy piece in my ear itself.

This is my favorite pair so far - ran hundreds of miles with them before they fell apart:

but wired - so looking for the wireless-equivalent comfort-wise.

For anyone interested in running here is an example of the watches wonderful GPS capability . Only out by about 2.5km. Maybe I won't bother with the watch based strava app should it ever appear. EDIT: just looking at the map in samsung health it seems to have managed ok for most of the run but then gave up just after 8km in and just straight lined me to home.
