Hi everyone.

I'm considering buying a kindle. I personally prefer books but in just running out of space so thought I might grab a kindle with eInk and just read that way. Is there a kindle that allows you to just download the books straight from the Internet via wifi and doesn't make you connect to a computer or anything like that?

Thanks

That's what kindles do fella, connect to WiFi and browse through the store via the Kindle.

Or you can use the Amazon site, via a browser/app, buy the Kindle version of the book you want and it will automatically download onto your Kindle, when it's connected to the net.

I finally got one last week and it's a great bit of kit, wish I'd bought one years ago !!

That's good to know. The only experience I have with an eReader is the one my mum has and that makes her sync her books from the desktop and it drives me mad as it's usually me hat has to do it. I might looking at jumping ship and get one soon. Cheers for the info.

Spend the extra and get a Paperwhite or above.

Recently upgraded mine to a Paperwhite and the backlight makes a huge difference.

I was looking at a paper white so think I would have gone for that. Is there an option to toggle the backlight on/off??

Sort of, you can dim/brighten it to full or off and inbetween to many degrees but you can't toggle. I found I set it to the degree I liked and have just left it there unless I'm in  very bright light. It still lasts weeks between charges even though I use it most nights for an hour or so.

Well as long as it can be dimmed to off like you say I'm still happy with that. How long does it take to charge when you do have to charge it?

Best answer I can give is I sometimes leave it to charge over night and the result seems to last weeks. It's nothing like a tablet.

A few hours plugged into my PC. Probably about 3-4.

That's not long at all. Definitely thinking that this might be my next big purchase.
