Kindle 10 not taking charge

My husband has a Kindle Fire 10 which isn't taking the charge.  I have tried two different leads and the only thing which happens is the usual beep when switching on and the screen showing an image of an empty battery with a red line across it (probably indicating that it has run completely down).

Any ideas?

If the battery is completely flat it may take some time until it charges.
Have you left it charging for sufficient time?

It has been on charge overnight but no luck.  It is now in the repairers!  But thanks anyway.
