Wifi Very Slow for Ipad but not for Iphone

I have an old Ipad Mini 1 and an Iphone 6s.  The ipad has just started running very slowly and when conducting speed tests with the Ipad and Iphone next to each other and connected to the same network and running the same test the Ipad records o.5mb while the Iphone 20mbs plus  I am sat at the desk which has the router.  What can the problem be and how can I fix it ?
