Where to put my modem

Just looking for some advice on modem placement.

I’ve got a Draytek Vigor 130 modem and Unifi USG router then all of my network kit.

Looking to ‘hide’ the network rack with switches, smart hubs etc... in a cupboard out of the way.

My BT master socket is nowhere near this location but there is a secondary phone socket where I’m looking to put my network rack.

So, am I better off plugging my modem into the master socket, then running an Ethernet cable back to the network

Or

Running a phone cable from the master socket filter on the front to the modem

Or

Just plugging it in to the secondary socket

Many thanks.

In terms of performance the best solution is to plug the modem into the master socket and run an ethernet cable to your router, the worst solution is running a long phone cable from the master socket to where the Draytek modem is located.

The inbetween option is to plug your modem into the secondary BT socket, this is what i'd try first and then see how you get on with internet performance/reliability.

Brilliant.

Thanks.

I’ll sort out a network cable between the 2 locations!
