Good evening everyone,

Looking for some advice please.
I have a computer which is filling up rapidly with photos and the like. Im looking for an external USB or networked SSD to use as my main storage device in the house which will automatically sync with my Onedrive account - is this possible?

The external SSD can be directly connected to my main computer or connected straight into my network so any computer can access it.  Looking for a 1TB SSD or higher.

Thank you in advance

Yes it's possible, the "thing" you want is probably a NAS (though there's other ways to do it, a NAS is probably simplest to set up and use for the domestic user.) Others will doubtless chime in with recommendations of specific models of NAS and/or operating system that has the feature set you need, in the mean time you might care to read the "NAS" FAQ pinned in this forum as a primer.

It would also be useful if you tell us the OS of your computer as that may influence the choice of device.

Personally, I would not opt for SSD as mechanical discs (HDD's) avail greater "storage for the money" though there's no reason not to use SSD if you don't mind the cost overhead (though check your NAS supports it,) SSD (having no moving part) will be silent (albeit that the NAS chassis may have a fan,) a bit cooler and faster - though that's of little benefit as the network infrastructure very likely be the slowest "hop" between computer and NAS (and your Internet link probably the slowest hop getting out the OneDrive.)

I suggest a hard drive instead of a SSD because hard drive have much better long term data retention.

Commercial NAS like QNAP, Synology etc have Onedrive addons in their app portals, you can sync with them that way.
