Archer C7 DD Wrt Firmware poor speeds

Hi,

I've got a TP Link Archer C7 router which I have been using connected to my virgin hub with that being in modem mode.

I was trying to configure it so I could use nord vpn within the router settings. To do this I read I needed to update the firmware on the router to something like dd wrt which I managed to do.

I tried to setup the VPN but couldn't get it to work for some reason.

However my main gripe is ever since I've flashed it with dd wrt the speeds I'm getting via wireless are really poor. I'm getting no more than 80mbps. Prior to flashing I was getting 300mbps  

Does anyone know why or can you suggest anything I could do or change to improve this?

Is that with Speedtest?

I found I would get poor results with open wrt but real download speeds were actually ok.

I'll actually try download speeds tomorrow and see what it's like.
