Hi,

I have just finished my first custom loop and my pc and my GPU is not being detected. It has two little white LEDs but that's when the 2x 8 pin wires are disconnected, they turn off when I plug them in.

The strange thing is that the RGB doesn't turn on only when I unplug and the plug the connector back.

I have searched the BIOS, updated windows, disabled the on board graphics.

Could it be a psu issues but my motherboard is not showing that the GPU is not connected.

My setup is :
8700
MSI Z390 gaming pro carbon
Aorus waterforce 1080 ti
16gb corsair ram
corsair 1000 rm

Any info would be grateful.

You mentioned unplugging and plugging back in to get the rgb working, presume that is with all power off?

Does windows device manager show the GPU?

Yep with the power off, I turn it on and nothing then turn it off unplug then plug it back in and then turn it on and the RGB work.

The GPU does not show in device manager, I have tried to disable on board graphics, use command prompt to show hidden devices, update windows, repeat the GPU in the slot and tried to install nvidia drivers the list goes on hahaha still nothing.

Well either the GPU or the motherboard are faulty I would say.

Great lol only just built it. What would you do? Everything was new apart from the gpu. Could it be the pcie 16x slot? Any way I could check it without another GPU?

Has your board got another slot you can try the GPU in ?

Edit I guess not as it’s on a water loop

To rule out the PSU, I swear by a tester, something basic will do for you, like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/PC-Power-supply-tester-LED/dp/B0038MN90A

If your board is new and the GPU is second hand, i would rule out the PSU ASAP and try to get my money back on the GPU.

However even though its a 1000w PSU, dont discount a faulty unit. Also you could order a new card off amazon and send it back to fault find.
Im assuming you have a moderate  knowledge of pc builds, so we can assume an incorrect setting is not in the equation.

If the GPU was working before the build then it probably isn’t the problem. I would look at the PSU, it also looks as though you may have custom PSU cables so those need to be tested as well, or use the original cables as a test. I would also reset the BIOS to defaults and see if there is a BIOS update available.
